The Law of Attraction - Is It Really Just Wishful Thinking?

Date:2007-06-29

The law of attraction has gotten quite a bit of attention recently, and like most people that are finding this site you probably got nudged into the direction of this topic by being exposed to a little movie called "the secret".

It was featured all over American TV in the recent months and has been the cause for quite a few controversial discussions. Is it real? Is it a scam? Is life really that easy?

I will refrain from discussing the movie in depth in this article - maybe a topic for later - but it is presented in a way to appeal to the mass. The mass of people seeking help and hope, which is always a sensitive topic. Any marketer will tell you that selling to people that look for hope is like selling water to a man who walked through the desert for hours without a drink.

If the movie manages to draw some attention to intention and desire manifestation, then that is a good thing, I guess. Once you start to read up on the topic you will find that this concept is hardly new. "Think Positive" has been a statement that has been part of my life ever since I can remember. It is hard to argue that thinking positive is a bad thing, whether it attracts positive things into your life or not, as it certainly helps to put you in a good mood.

And that's where everyone wants to be right? :)

In the movie - there I am talking about it again - the order of things is this:

1) ask (you).

2) answer (universe).

3) receive (you).

This makes it sound like all you have to do to become rich is to just daydream 5 hours a day, and it will happen. The receive part is actually kind of deceptive. It could mean to get ready to receive what you asked for - which could involve some work on your side - in which case I would not have a problem with the statement. However, is it conceived that way? My guess would be no, how would a desperate, fat person wanting to lose weight, looking for hope understand the listing above?

Surely it sounds like all you have to do is think yourself thin or muscular to make it happen.

The way I see it, and strangely enough this is inline with one of the experts in the movie, is that the third point needs to be replaced with the word action.

I very strongly believe that you can do,be,have whatever you want to have. It is actually quite funny, as I probably come off as arrogant to some of my friends, from time to time, when I am saying I will do this and that. Simply because I think with enough ACTION from my side, I can, no matter what it is.

And so can you.

You need to create a strong desire within you, to reach a certain goal. This desire will be your fuel, this desire will keep you doing those exercises, it will make you stick to your diet. This part is actually in-line with the things you were told with "the secret", other than the fact that it cannot and should not be understood as wishful thinking.

You need to think about what you want to create, which goal you want to reach. You need to tie emotions to it, you need to feel it. This is desire. Keep your goal permanently in your mind, and the desire to reach it will give you the power to perform the actions that will take you there.

The idea behind project-wealth is to help you keep your mind on your goals, which in return will motivate you and help you build the desire needed to become who you wish you would be.

It does this by affecting one part of our life, a part that we spend more and more time in as the internet grows older and we grow more accustomed to it. Searching. Everyone who surfs the net more than once a year knows about search engines like Google and yahoo. They are our way signs to the content we want to view and read about.

Projectwealth ( http://www.projectwealth.net ) is, basically, a themed Google search, that allows you to set a personal list of intentions and goals, or even just a to do list. This list will be shown to you every time you return to the site, and every time you search the internet using the Google search box on the site.

I also love motivational and inspiring quotes, so I put that in there too :)

If it will actually help to build and keep up the desire to reach a certain goal of yours only time and an open mind will tell. I suggest you try it out and let me know what effect it had on you and your life.

Anyways, this has gotten much longer than I intended, I will post more on this topic though, so stay tuned and thanks for reading!
