The Law of Attraction or Just Amazing Coincidences?
Date:2007-06-29Just what is the law of attraction? How can something be law that cannot be scientifically explained or reproduced in the laboratory? Perhaps the law of attraction should better be called the "Mysterious phenomena of attracting remarkable and amazing coincidences."
Nonetheless one has to be in the right place at the right time, venturing a specific endeavor for any laws of attraction or coincidences of significant consequence to occur. To illustrate... It was around 1982; I had been buying and selling closeouts for years, when I began specializing mainly in fragrances and cosmetics.
I was living in Miami Beach and managed to develop a number of accounts in the Miami area, which were reselling mainly to Latin America tourists.
At that time I was offered a closeout of 10,000 bottles of eight oz. cologne with a pleasant fragrance, for thirty-five cents a bottle. It was a very low price. The problem was the bottles had no caps. Although they had a spray cap, they were missing the decorative cap, which was shaped like a mushroom and fit over the spray cap and complemented the sensuous, swirling shape of the bottle.
I determined I could resell them without the decorative cap for at least $1.50. But, I didn’t have $3500.00, or the money for the freight from New Jersey. Nor room to store over 400 cases, as I was working out of my house.
One of my good customers had a small super market, way down on south beach and I thought he might be interested in going partners with me. I went to see him with a sample of the bottle and told him that if he put up $3500.00, or one half the cost of .70 cents per bottle and paid the freight, I would make him a full partner. Of course I had no investment. His half covered the entire cost. That’s how good the deal was.
Selling at $1.50 each, we would double our money and could possibly sell for $1.75 a bottle in less-than-case lots. He thought about it for a day or two and told me that he didn’t think it was such a good buy. I told him if this wasn’t a good buy, he wouldn’t ever know a good buy if it bit him in the ass.

He thought it over again and eventually agreed to do the deal, on the condition the entire trailer load of 10,000 bottles would be stored in his location. I readily and happily agreed.
So far things were going very well. I didn’t need to put up any money, had a place to store them… everything was going swell. It was a hot summer day when the trailer arrived and with the help of a few of his stock-boys we spent the day unloading the trailer in the hot Miami sun.
We began selling them fairly well at $1.50 and all was going well… although we did lose a number of potential sales because the bottles had no caps. So it looked like it would take a little longer to sell them all.
At that time I decided to make a trip to the Free Zone in Panama, where quite a few perfume distributors were located. The Free Zone in Colon, Panama, was at the time the largest in the world and catered to all the Latin American countries as it is so well geographically located.
I had made a list of the distributors in the Zone whom I wanted to meet with, based on which brand of perfumes they were distributing. I was staying in Panama City and had taken a two-hour train ride to the Colon Free Zone, arriving just a little after 12 in the afternoon. I took a taxi to my first target, only to learn from the receptionist that it was the local custom, for all of the owners, of all the companies, to take lunch from 12 to 2 PM every day.
So I decided to wait, in the air-conditioned office, in as much as anyone else I visited would also be out to lunch and I’d have to wait there as well. I was sitting in a small reception area, in front of a round table with a number of magazines.

I picked one up and flipping the pages, was astounded to see an ad from a plastics company in Hong Kong, which made the exact cap for the bottles we had in Miami. Gadzooks!!
An absolutely amazing example of the law of attraction, or the mysterious law of coinicdences.
I had bought the cologne in New Jersey; shipped to Miami… and here I am in Panama finding the caps from a maker in Hong Kong. What are the odds? Incredible!
I can’t describe the impact; the stunned exhilaration of the whole circle of circumstances! I am still, more than amazed, at the coincidences. Defies explanation!
And rather surprised that I had to talk my partner into buying the caps. It meant waiting a month or two, holding off sales so that we could get the caps, put them on and then sell the bottles for $2.50. I don’t recall exactly the cost for the caps, probably about twenty cents… but I do recall we spent a few hours in the storage room opening cases, to put them on. Finally, my partner comes up with a good idea. Let’s put the caps on as we sell! With that we sold out the remaining batch in one sale.
This story illuminates how the law of attraction is so prevalent in our everyday existence we hardly notice, unless and until it makes its presence known in a most remarkable sequence of events. Circumstances signify and suggest, the more dedicated we are to our purpose the more these mysterious but delightful coincidences favor us.
